I can’t wait for the day when @mentions become a universal function.
I suspect that eventually they will do much to organize our attention. Like little gravity wells sprinkled across the web, they can tell me where am I needed and what I should be looking at. Where is my attention being requested, and who’s doing the asking?
I find myself wanting to @mention someone on Tumblr almost daily. I tried @alerting someone in a Google Doc the other day as a means to get them in front of an open question.

I believe that in the future our mobile phones will be inconspicuous, tiny, and always on. Conversations just are ongoing and happen all the time just like in ‘real space/life’. There will be ways to connect to some one, and get someones attention, of course, and up until now i did not know what that would be and how that would work. But you just say @bob and you are immediately talking to bob. You think it can never work ?I’m sure it will we will figure it out.
